The Pali lookout is an incredible view- just doing the drive up and over the Pali Highway is amazing.
Parking is a ticketing system, that only costs a few dollars. We accidentally parked in the bus parking area, and didn’t realise until we got back to the car a few hours later. No-one seemed to mind, so no harm, no foul.
There are a great number of chickens at the lookout, as we found throughout much of Oahu, especially Waimea and the North Shore.
As I said, the sights from the lookout are amazing, with incredible views down to Kāneʻohe Bay and Kailua. If you’re prepared to go slightly off the beaten track, then ignore the “Road Closed” sign on the path next to the lookout, and you’ll find yourself on The Old Pali Road.
As happens almost every day you’re in Hawaii, you’ll suddenly find yourself on the set of Lost and Jurassic Park.
As you slowly meander down the mountain, the views to Oahu’s windward side really do make you think that you should probably just never go home.
It’s not often that I’m in a place and know, without question, that I’ll be back.
