The Phuket Weekend Market is a worthwhile visit. For souvenir shopping, it’s far cheaper and has more range than the main variety stores, and it also has food, clothes, electronics and an abundance of atmosphere.
There’s even a bar there, which ordinarily we may have taken full advantage of. With a wife who’s 4 months pregnant, sometimes the drinking needs to take a back seat!
Beware if you’re thinking you need a new phone. I was amazed at the range of new Samsung S5 handsets. I’m pretty cluey with this stuff, but I couldn’t tell the difference. Everything about these phones looks like the real deal, even the software. Apparently it’s not until you get home and really start to use them that you realise how crappy it all really is and that you have indeed been sold a fake. I’m glad I didn’t get sucked in, as I did in Shanghai a few years ago when I bought an ‘ipad’ from a market stall.
